The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, led by jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has altered its plans for a rally in Rawalpindi, converting the event into a protest instead, as per media reports. The move follows directives from Khan, according to The Express Tribune.
Speaking outside Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail, Khan indicated that the authorities were unlikely to allow the rally. "We know they won't grant permission, or if they do, it will be far from the city. So, we will hold a full-fledged protest instead, and our lawyers will be outside the Supreme Court as well," he stated.
Despite the anticipated refusal of permission, Khan emphasized that the public would still join the protest. Concurrently, local police have been raiding the homes of PTI leaders to preemptively curb the planned protest activities. Previously, PTI's rallies in Islamabad and Lahore were subject to strict official conditions, even leading to police intervention.
