Former Delhi Deputy CM and AAP leader, Manish Sisodia, has accused the BJP of attempting to undermine democracy in the Delhi Municipal Corporation. He claimed that the BJP forced a late-night election for the standing committee member, despite the civic body's House meeting being adjourned.

Sisodia alleged that the orders came directly from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that Delhi LG VK Saxena, even while abroad, instructed the election to proceed immediately. 'At 8:30 pm, the Delhi LG wrote a letter to the Commissioner MCD, demanding the election be completed by 10:00 pm,' said Sisodia.

Sisodia further claimed that BJP councillors were pre-informed about the LG's letter and the commissioner's orders. 'While AAP and Congress councillors had left, BJP councillors stayed back, indicating they knew about the imminent instructions from the LG,' he added.

Delhi LG VK Saxena had earlier directed the MCD Commissioner to ensure the election was conducted by 10 pm, allowing for the Deputy Mayor or the seniormost member to preside if necessary. MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar later scheduled the election for September 27 at 1 pm after a meeting adjourned due to protests against banning mobile phones in the house.
