Bharatiya Janata Party Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has launched a stringent attack on Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, accusing him of corruption and misuse of power. Poonawalla's allegations come after a Bengaluru court directed the Karnataka Lokayukta to investigate Siddaramaiah regarding the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam.
Poonawalla criticized Rahul Gandhi, questioning whether he would ask Siddaramaiah for his resignation amid the allegations. 'Rahul Gandhi should clarify if he will demand Siddaramaiah's resignation. But how can he when he himself has been linked to land-related corruption,' Poonawalla said.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar defended Siddaramaiah, asserting that there is no possibility of his resignation. 'The entire Congress party stands by Siddaramaiah. The BJP and JDS are conspiring against the CM because they cannot tolerate Congress's success in Karnataka,' Shivakumar remarked.
Responding to the allegations, Siddaramaiah firmly stated he would not resign. 'I won't resign. There are allegations against HD Kumaraswamy; did he resign? Let Kumaraswamy resign first,' the Chief Minister declared.
Earlier today, a Special Court in Bengaluru directed the Lokayukta police to file a criminal case against Siddaramaiah and others over alleged illegalities in allotting sites valued at Rs 56 crore to his wife. The court instructed the Superintendent of Police of the Lokayukta to apply relevant corruption prevention provisions.
