West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again directed sharp criticism at the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) for allegedly releasing more water without informing her government.
Expressing her concerns about the relentless rainfall in the state, Banerjee pointed out that DVC's unchecked release of water exacerbates the situation.
'Today it rained heavily, and yesterday the DVC released another 25,000 cusecs of water without informing us. They did not communicate through our sources. I am worried about what will happen if the rain does not stop in the next three days,' she said on Thursday.
Banerjee has repeatedly emphasized that the ongoing floods are primarily man-made due to unnecessary water discharge from DVC dams.
Conversely, the Union Power Ministry defended its actions, stating all protocols were adhered to when releasing water from the DVC dams, refuting the chief minister's allegations of contributing to the state's flooding.
Recently, Banerjee wrote two successive letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting his intervention in the flood situation and seeking the release of funds.
