Singh, who was at the helm of the Congress-led UPA government between 2004 and 2014, previously served as finance minister in the Rao government during 1991-96. His tenure is marked by sweeping economic reforms that significantly boosted India's economy. Born in a region now part of Pakistan in 1932, Singh is credited as the architect of these crucial reforms.
