Congress leader Ripun Bora has accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of using the implementation of the Assam Accord as a 'political gimmick' to win the 2026 assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Bora criticized the Sarma-led government for its selective approach in implementing recommendations from the Justice (Retd) Biplab Kumar Sarma Committee report. Despite the government's claims, these recommendations have yet to be submitted to the Centre, which originally constituted the panel.
The Assam government recently discussed implementing these recommendations with the All Assam Students' Union (AASU). While the government intends to implement 57 of the 67 recommendations, Bora remains skeptical of their sincerity.
