Mayawati Criticizes UP Govt's Directive on Displaying Eatery Operator Details
Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati criticized the Uttar Pradesh government's directive to display names and addresses of eatery operators, highlighting it as electoral politics rather than genuine food safety measures. The directive includes mandatory CCTV installation and hygiene practices, which Mayawati attributed to political distraction rather than effective enforcement of existing food adulteration laws.

Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati has sharply criticized the Uttar Pradesh government's new directive mandating the display of names and addresses of eatery operators, proprietors, and managers. According to her, this move is more about electoral politics than ensuring food safety.
The directive, announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, follows several incidents of food contamination, including spitting and mixing urine in food items. It requires not only name and address displays but also mandates that chefs and waiters wear masks and gloves, and that CCTV cameras be installed in all eateries.
Mayawati pointed out that similar actions during the Kanwar Yatra indicate this measure diverts public attention rather than addressing the core issue of food adulteration. She noted that while strict laws against food adulteration exist, enforcement is lax. Mayawati also cited the recent Tirupati laddu controversy as an example of how political interference undermines public trust in food safety.
