Punjab Panchayat Elections Set for October 15

The Punjab State Commission Election has scheduled the Punjab Panchayat Elections for October 15, 2024. The Model Code of Conduct will be in effect. Nominations start on September 27, with the last date for withdrawal on October 7. Over 1.33 crore voters are expected to participate.

The Punjab State Commission Election has unveiled the schedule for the Punjab Panchayat Elections, confirming that voting will take place state-wide on October 15. Punjab State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhuri announced that the Model Code of Conduct has been enforced across all panchayats where polling is anticipated.

Addressing the media, Chaudhuri disclosed that nomination filing would commence on September 27, with candidates having until October 4 to submit their nominations. The withdrawal of nominations will be allowed until October 7. The election will use ballot boxes, and votes will be counted at the polling stations immediately after voting ends.

The Commission reported that 13,237 Sarpanches and 83,437 Panches will be elected, with a total electorate of 1,33,97,922 registered voters. The expenditure limit for Sarpanch candidates is set at Rs. 40,000, and Rs. 30,000 for Panch candidates. Approximately 96,000 personnel will be on duty, ensuring that the election process is carried out smoothly.
