India Emerges as Mediator in Russia-Ukraine Conflict
India is striving to mediate between Russia and Ukraine to hasten the conflict's end and promote negotiations, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated. Despite lacking a formal peace plan, India engages both nations and shares insights. Prime Minister Modi and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy recently met, underlining India's diplomatic efforts.
India is actively working to mediate between Russia and Ukraine in hopes of ending the ongoing conflict and initiating serious negotiations, according to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
Speaking at the 'India, Asia, and the World' event hosted by the Asia Society Policy Institute, Jaishankar emphasized that wars are not the solution and a resolution won't emerge from the battlefield. He mentioned that India, while lacking a formal peace plan, has been engaging both the Russian and Ukrainian governments to see if they can hasten conflict resolution.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently met, underscoring India's role in diplomatic efforts. Modi also held discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, highlighting India's commitment to fostering peace. Jaishankar noted that India's balanced relations with Russia and the West are part of a multipolar world, aiming to maximize benefits from the international order.
