Germany's Greens, part of Chancellor Olaf Scholz's coalition, are witnessing a significant leadership shuffle. Leaders Omid Nouripour and Ricarda Lang announced their resignation following a series of disappointing elections.
The Greens saw a sharp decline in support in the European Parliament election in June and were ousted from two state parliaments in eastern Germany, most recently in Brandenburg.
Nouripour termed the Brandenburg result as 'the party's deepest crisis for a decade.' He emphasized the necessity of new leadership to overcome this crisis. Lang echoed this sentiment, stressing their decision comes from conviction. New leaders will be elected in mid-November to navigate the party forward.
