West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday stated that the Centre is welcome to move the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) headquarters from Kolkata, criticizing the organization for releasing water that led to the deaths of 28 people in recent floods.
Banerjee's remarks followed severe inundation in several southern districts of the state after water was released from DVC-managed dams under the Ministry of Power.
'Let them take it away. I do not care. They keep a building in Kolkata but ignore Kolkata's plight,' Banerjee said. She announced state compensations of Rs two lakh for each victim's family and blamed the Centre for failing to maintain DVC's reservoirs.
