The Congress on Monday denounced Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi's remark that 'secularism is a European concept' as 'outrageous and unacceptable,' calling for his immediate removal.
Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, asserted that Ravi is merely a 'trial balloon floater,' echoing the intentions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Ramesh's criticism followed Ravi's claims that secularism, a European concept born from conflicts between the church and the king, was wrongly introduced into India's Constitution during the Emergency by 'one insecure prime minister,' referring to Indira Gandhi.
