Japan's outgoing prime minister, Fumio Kishida, emphasized the need for continued U.S. leadership in East Asia and globally during an event hosted by Bloomberg. With global order facing challenges from Russia and China, Kishida reiterated the importance of the U.S.-Japan alliance and urged investment in Japan.
Less than two months before a closely fought U.S. election, Japan's outgoing Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, called for sustained U.S. leadership in East Asia and the world. Speaking at a Bloomberg-hosted event in New York, Kishida highlighted ongoing global challenges, notably Russia's aggression in Ukraine.
Kishida stressed his efforts to bolster the Japan-U.S. alliance and enhance Japan's defense capabilities to protect the international order. 'What kind of future do we intend to hand down to our children and grandchildren? It is not a world where freedom is restricted and the will of the people is suppressed,' he stated.
During his appearance at the U.N. General Assembly, Kishida reiterated that East Asia and the globe need U.S. involvement for a safe and peaceful society. As U.S. elections approach, Kishida reaffirmed Japan's commitment to its alliance with the U.S. and urged for investment in Japan, invoking Captain Kirk from Star Trek: 'Boldly invest in Japan, like no one has done before!'
