Congress leaders from Maharashtra's Vidarbha region have thrown their support behind state unit president Nana Patole for the chief ministerial position if the party garners the maximum seats in upcoming assembly elections.
Nagpur unit chief Vikas Thakre emphasized the desire for local representation in leadership roles. "Nana Patole is working very hard in Vidarbha and if the Congress secures the maximum seats, he will naturally be a strong candidate for the CM's post," Thakre stated.
While the party's Maharashtra in-charge, Ramesh Chennithala, remarked that the primary goal remains to unseat the current Eknath Shinde government, the issue of a CM candidate is on hold until post-elections. Maharashtra assembly polls are expected to take place in November.
