BSP supremo Mayawati has urged Dalit leaders in Haryana to cut ties with the Congress and other perceived casteist parties, advocating instead to follow the path laid down by Dr. BR Ambedkar. Speaking ahead of the Haryana assembly elections, Mayawati accused Congress of using Dalit leaders only in times of trouble and then marginalizing them.
Mayawati's comments come as the BSP-INLD alliance attempts to position itself as a pro-Dalit alternative in Haryana. She pointed out that historically, Congress only appoints Dalit leaders to key positions during difficult times, sidelining them in favorable conditions. She called on Dalit leaders to draw inspiration from Ambedkar and distance themselves from such parties.
Mayawati further accused Congress of being against reservations for Dalits and other backward communities, urging the electorate to be wary of parties with anti-reservation agendas. The Haryana assembly elections will be held on October 5, with results declared on October 8.
