BJP MP Lahar Singh Siroya on Monday slammed the ruling Congress in Karnataka for targeting Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot.
In a scathing statement, Siroya alleged that as cases pile up before the Governor, Congress leaders are casting aspersions on him in a bid to undermine his position.
He claimed that it is an old trick of Congress to attack constitutional authorities when their misdeeds are exposed. According to Siroya, senior Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, have started targeting the Governor as numerous corruption cases accumulate before him.
Siroya highlighted that the Karnataka High Court is nearing a decision on prosecuting the CM in the MUDA 'scam'. He speculated that more corruption cases may soon land before the Governor and the courts.
He accused Congress of deliberately shaming the Governor amid growing documentary evidence of corruption. Siroya also pointed out that, during his first term as CM, Siddaramaiah had weakened the Lokayukta and created an anti-corruption unit to avoid oversight.
BJP leaders, Siroya added, have faced scrutiny from the Lokayukta but never attempted to dismantle the institution. He warned that Congress leaders would attempt to destroy institutions to safeguard their positions when they sense instability in their rule.
