Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu on Monday defended his remarks against the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, urging Congress to protest against Gandhi instead.
Bittu's comments came after Rahul Gandhi's statements in the United States regarding reservations in India. Bittu argued that Gandhi frequents Gurudwara Darbar Sahib without any hindrance, stating that the issue transcends any party lines. Following Bittu's statement, Congress workers staged a protest at the CBI gate and were subsequently detained by the police.
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condemned the police's action, stating that protesting within democratic norms, such as showing black flags, is legitimate. He demanded a public apology from Bittu for his remarks. Bittu reiterated his stance at Jaipur airport, saying that the controversy is not about any political party but about addressing issues concerning Punjab and Sikhs. During his US visit, Gandhi had asserted that the fight in India concerns the rights of Sikhs and other religions to practice their customs.
