Former President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he does not plan to run for president again in 2028 if his 2024 bid fails.
When asked by journalist Sharyl Attkisson if he would consider another run, Trump replied, "No, I don't. I think that will be, that will be it."
This comment is significant as it marks a rare instance where Trump acknowledges the possibility of electoral defeat, contrasting with his usual claims of widespread cheating.
Trump would be 82 by 2028, one year older than President Joe Biden is currently. Biden exited the race in July after a poor debate performance and criticism over his age and stability.
In a 22-minute interview for Attkisson's show 'Full Measure,' Trump defended his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. He lauded the vaccines developed during his tenure but noted ongoing studies to determine their safety.
He mentioned a partisan divide in vaccine trust, with Republicans growing increasingly skeptical.
The 2028 remark came at the interview's conclusion, along with a discussion on Trump's health practices. He mentioned attempts to eat properly, despite his reputation for enjoying hamburgers, which he clarified as "proper hamburgers."
