Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Sunday that he will move out of his official residence during the upcoming Navratri festival starting October 3.
Kejriwal, in his first public address since his resignation on September 17, criticized the BJP for allegedly involving him in a false case. He emphasized that he cannot live with the 'stain of dishonesty', and cited his efforts in making electricity and bus travel free for women, as well as improving government schools and hospitals, to defend his integrity.
After being released on bail from Tihar jail on September 13, following over five months in prison related to the excise policy case, Kejriwal reiterated his intent to serve the country rather than seeking power. He accused the BJP of attacking his honesty as a tactic to win elections and claimed that his resignation was due to hurt caused by corruption allegations against him. He further announced plans to move out of his residence and live among the people during Navratri.
Kejriwal portrayed the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections as a 'trial by fire' and urged voters to not support him if they believed in the corruption charges against him. He also criticized Prime Minister Modi for keeping his former deputy, Manish Sisodia, in jail, stating that the country's growth had been hindered. Kejriwal invoked memories of the India Against Corruption movement, asserting that his party had shown that elections could be won through honesty.
