Congress Appoints New Acting Working Presidents for Jammu and Kashmir Unit

The Congress has appointed M K Bhardwaj and Bhanu Mahajan as acting working presidents of its Jammu and Kashmir unit, the party announced on Saturday.
The new appointments come amid the ongoing assembly polls in the region. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge made the decision to appoint Bhardwaj and Mahajan with immediate effect.
In August, Congress had appointed Tariq Hameed Karra as president of its Jammu and Kashmir unit, replacing Vikar Rasool Wani. Further, Kharge had named Tara Chand and Raman Bhalla as working presidents for Jammu and Kashmir.
The elections in Jammu and Kashmir are currently being held in three phases. The first phase, consisting of voting for 24 seats, took place on September 18. The next phase will see voting for 26 seats on September 25, with the final phase scheduled for October 1. Results are expected on October 8.
