Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday emphasized that the Quad is not a coalition against any nation but is committed to upholding a rules-based international order and respecting sovereignty. His remarks were a veiled reference to China's actions in regional waters.
'A free, open, inclusive and prosperous Indo-Pacific is our priority,' Modi stated at the summit hosted by President Joe Biden, also attended by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
The Quad, which includes the US, Japan, India, and Australia, was formed to address challenges in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly China's territorial claims in the South and East China Seas. Modi reaffirmed the Quad's mission to support a peaceful and rules-based international landscape.
