Trump Campaigns in North Carolina Amid Controversy Over Ally
Donald Trump campaigned in North Carolina without his embattled Republican ally, Mark Robinson, amid controversy over Robinson's past inflammatory comments. Robinson, facing accusations, denied them and vowed to continue his governor's race. As the election nears, Republicans worry the scandal could impact Trump's chances in the crucial battleground state.
Donald Trump campaigned in North Carolina on Saturday, but his embattled Republican ally, gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson, was noticeably absent. Robinson, previously a fixture at Trump rallies, was absent after a CNN report revealed inflammatory comments he made, including self-identifying as a 'Black NAZI' and advocating for slavery's return.
Despite Robinson's denial of the allegations and commitment to remain in the governor's race, his absence was felt. North Carolina is pivotal for both Trump and his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, in the upcoming Nov. 5 election. Polls indicate a tight race, prompting concerns among Republicans that the controversy surrounding Robinson could damage Trump's prospects.
At the Wilmington rally, Trump declared he would not debate Harris a second time, citing the commencement of voting. Although Trump has not addressed Robinson's allegations, he has previously praised him as 'Martin Luther King on steroids.' Meanwhile, Democrats have launched a campaign to remind voters of Robinson's controversial past and connection to Trump, potentially influencing the election outcome.
