Skills honed by Sitaram Yechury during his student days at Jawaharlal Nehru University were crucial in shaping his path as a national leader and staunch defender of democracy, secularism, and federalism, said former CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat on Saturday.
During a condolence meeting, Karat emphasized that defending JNU's values would be the best tribute to Yechury, who passed away on September 12 at the age of 72.
Karat recollected the strong fighting spirit in JNU, lamenting ongoing efforts to undermine the institution's legacy. He praised Yechury's relentless efforts over decades to unite secular democratic forces against communal and authoritarian regimes.
