Members of the Uttarakhand Congress' women wing staged a march to the chief minister's residence on Saturday to protest the rising crime against women in the state. However, their advancement was thwarted by the police.

The demonstration was spearheaded by Uttarakhand Mahila Congress president Jyoti Gairola. Scores of protesters, including men and women, brandished placards and chanted slogans while moving from the state party office on Rajpur Road towards the chief minister's residence in an attempt to surround it.

Despite being stopped at Hathi Barkala by the police, the protestors vocalized their discontent over women's growing insecurity under the BJP government, citing recent incidents of molestation, rape, and murder. They called for a CBI probe into the murder of resort receptionist Ankita Bhandari and the disclosure of the 'VIP' involved. Additional incidents, such as the rape and murder of a nurse in Udham Singh Nagar and other notable cases of violence against women, were also highlighted by party leaders, including Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara and leader of opposition Yashpal Arya.
