Trump's North Carolina Rally Shadowed by Robinson Controversy
Donald Trump is set to visit North Carolina, but his endorsed governor candidate, Mark Robinson, faces backlash from past controversial comments. Robinson's presence in the race may harm Trump's chances in the battleground state, where he is closely tied with Kamala Harris. Both Democratic campaigns are highlighting Robinson's past remarks.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will hold a rally in North Carolina this Saturday, but his endorsed governor candidate, Mark Robinson, won't join him. This follows a CNN report revealing Robinson's controversial past comments, including calling himself a 'Black Nazi' and proposing the return of slavery in online posts. Robinson, who denied the allegations, remains in the race for governor.
The Democratic National Committee responded by launching ads in Raleigh, Charlotte, and Greensboro, linking Trump to Robinson. A new TV ad by Harris' campaign also features Trump's praise for Robinson. Trump previously celebrated Robinson as 'Martin Luther King on steroids' and recently appeared with him at an event in Greensboro.
With North Carolina being a key battleground state, Trump and Harris are making significant efforts to secure votes. Some Republicans fear Robinson's presence in the race could hurt Trump's chances. Political science expert Chris Cooper noted that a minor shift in voter sentiment could be enough to flip the state. Notably, Senator Thom Tillis emphasized the importance of the presidential race, subtly sidestepping the gubernatorial contest.
