Congress Challenges AAP's Claims Ahead of Haryana Elections

Congress leader Rashid Alvi has rebuffed AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal’s claim of playing a pivotal role in the upcoming Haryana elections, asserting Congress's ability to win a majority independently. Alvi accused AAP of potential collusion with BJP, while Haryana’s Election Commission aims to boost voter turnout for the October 5 elections.

Congress leader Rashid Alvi has responded sharply to statements by AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal regarding the upcoming Haryana elections. Alvi asserted that Congress will form the government without needing any external support, claiming, 'Congress party doesn't need anyone in Haryana. Congress will form the government in Haryana and that too with a very large majority.'

Alvi alleged that Kejriwal's recent bail might be influenced by BJP, suggesting a possible collaboration between AAP and the ruling party. He stated, 'I am afraid that the BJP has directed its agencies to grant bail to Arvind Kejriwal so that he can campaign against Congress.' He further questioned AAP's political motives, adding, 'If you are saying that the balance will be with me... then you will decide whether Congress government should be formed or BJP government.'

In contrast, Kejriwal maintains that AAP will be crucial in forming the next government in Haryana. He commented, 'What did BJP give you? They have given only corruption, unemployment, and inflation. This time the whole of Haryana is demanding transformation.' Kejriwal asserted, 'Whichever government will be formed in Haryana, it will not be formed without AAP's support. AAP is getting this many seats that the government will not be formed without its support.' He added that these developments strengthen doubts about Kejriwal's motives, suggesting that his bail may have been orchestrated to undermine Congress's efforts.

On Friday, September 20, Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Agarwal announced that the Election Commission of India, with the Chief Electoral Officer's office, has implemented special measures to increase voter turnout in the 15th Haryana Legislative Assembly General Election on October 5. Activities such as slogan writing, painting, street plays, and poster making are being organized to encourage voters. Agarwal noted that the voter turnout in Haryana has historically been higher than in other states, and urged citizens to participate in the 'Festival of Democracy - Pride of the State' during the Haryana Assembly Elections 2024 by casting their votes.

Voting for the 90-member legislative assembly in Haryana will be held on October 5, with results declared on October 8, coinciding with the counting in Jammu and Kashmir.
