The Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir has taken decisive action against dissent within its ranks. On Wednesday, it expelled a district unit president and several other leaders for defying the party's alliance with the National Conference (NC) by contesting assembly polls as Independents.

'Breach of alliance unity shall not be tolerated,' stated a spokesperson for the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC).

As a result, Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan, the president of the Srinagar district unit, along with two other leaders, has been stripped of their basic party membership.
