A fresh case has been filed against Bangladesh's ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, charged with attempting to murder a student during last month's violent clashes that resulted in her government's downfall, a media outlet reported on Sunday.
This new case is the latest in a series of accusations against the 76-year-old ex-premier, who resigned and sought refuge in India on August 5, amid mass student protests against a controversial government job quota system. The case, lodged by 22-year-old Fahim Faisal, alleges he was shot during an anti-government protest in Dinajpur on August 4, just a day before the government toppled, as reported by The Daily Star.
With this filing, Hasina now faces 155 cases, including allegations of murder, crimes against humanity, and attempted murder. The case statement details that protesters faced armed assaults, leading to multiple injuries. The case names 59 individuals, including Hasina, former whip Iqbalur Rahim, and Dinajpur Sadar Upazila Chairman Imdad Sarkar. Over 230 people have died in violence since the government's fall, pushing the death toll past 600 since mid-July's initial protests.
