The Congress in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday sent show-cause notices to several party leaders over breaches of alliance unity, following their decision to file nominations as Independent candidates in the upcoming assembly elections in the Union territory.

A party spokesperson confirmed that the J-K Congress had taken serious note of the situation and sought explanations from the errant leaders within three days. If responses are not provided within this timeframe, strict disciplinary action will be enforced.

Among those who have entered the fray as Independent candidates is Ganderbal district president Sahil Farooq. Farooq is contesting against National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah in the Ganderbal assembly segment, despite the party's seat-sharing pact with the NC.
