Senior Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh has accused opposition political forces of conspiring to attack protesting junior doctors in an effort to tarnish the image of the Mamata Banerjee government and the ruling party in West Bengal.

The junior doctors' sit-in at Swasthya Bhavan, headquarters of the state's health department, continued into its fourth day on Friday as they called for the removal of top health officials.

In a press briefing, Ghosh, a former Rajya Sabha MP, played a purported audio recording where two individuals are heard plotting to attack the junior doctors on their return from Nabanna, the state secretariat, on September 12 night.

The protesting doctors had visited Nabanna on September 12 intending to negotiate with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to resolve the RG Kar medicine impasse. The meeting was aborted when the government refused to live-stream the talks as requested by the doctors.

"The audio clip reveals that certain individuals intended to attack the junior doctors last night and might try again. We have instructed police and security officials to stay on high alert to prevent such incidents. We are working towards a peaceful resolution," Ghosh stated.

Ghosh further claimed the party has credible intelligence that members of Left and ultra-Left parties are plotting to infiltrate the protestors' ranks and launch attacks to discredit the Trinamool Congress and the Mamata Banerjee administration.
