Diplomatic tensions between the UK and Russia heightened on Friday as the UK denounced Russia's "completely baseless" allegations of espionage involving British diplomats. This development follows Moscow's decision to revoke the accreditation of six British diplomats who reportedly departed Russia weeks ago.
In a statement, the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) firmly rejected the claims made by Russia's FSB security service, emphasizing the UK's unwavering commitment to protecting its national interests. "The accusations made today by the FSB against our staff are completely baseless," the FCDO stated.
The incident occurs against the backdrop of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's visit to Washington for discussions with US President Joe Biden on pivotal matters such as the ongoing war in Ukraine and potential approval for Ukraine to target sites in Russia with Western missiles.
