Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis fiercely criticized the opposition on Thursday for objecting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud's residence for Ganesh puja. Fadnavis alleged that an 'ecosystem' became active as if a major calamity had occurred.

In a post on his X handle, Fadnavis questioned the opposition's outrage, sharing photos of former PM Manmohan Singh hosting an iftar party in 2009, attended by the then Chief Justice of India, K G Balakrishnan. Modi's participation in the Ganesh puja triggered a backlash, prompting Fadnavis to respond that such criticisms were unfounded.

'As part of the ongoing Ganesh festival, Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed puja of Lord Ganesh and Mahalaxmi at the residence of CJI D Y Chandrachud,' he stated. Fadnavis pointed out that the CJI, who hails from Maharashtra, has a tradition of bringing a Ganesh idol to his Delhi residence every year.

Fadnavis accused the opposition of double standards and questioned whether opposing Modi's puja was an insult to Maharashtra's festivals, culture, and devotion. 'Why such a fuss when PM Modi goes to perform puja but no objections when the previous prime minister hosted iftar parties?' he asked.

He also shared a link to a news article from September 18, 2009, featuring photographs of Manmohan Singh's iftar party as evidence of his point.
