Political leaders across Tamil Nadu and India expressed deep grief over the passing of CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Thursday, praising his extensive contributions to public service and his critical stance against the Emergency period.
Governor R N Ravi, in a heartfelt post on 'X', lauded Yechury's impactful political career, extending condolences to his family and followers. Chief Minister M K Stalin described Yechury as a fearless leader who remained dedicated to justice from a young age, particularly during the Emergency. He further commended Yechury's advocacy for the working class and progressive values.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, MDMK chief Vaiko, and other leaders remembered Yechury's significant roles in forming governments at the Centre and his lifelong service to the people. CPI(M) and CPI leaders also paid their respects, hailing Yechury as a towering figure in India's Left movement.
