In a significant political development, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya dissolved the state Assembly on Thursday, acting on a recommendation from the state cabinet. This action aims to circumvent the constitutional necessity of convening the House before the six-month period since its last meeting lapses.

The dissolution, effective immediately, was accomplished under the powers vested in the Governor by Article 174 (2) (b) of the Indian Constitution. The current Assembly's term was scheduled to expire on November 3.

As a consequence, the Nayab Singh Saini government will function as a caretaker administration until new elections, already announced for October 5, produce a new legislative assembly. Election results are expected by October 8.
