BRS MLA P Kaushik Reddy's proposal to send saris and bangles to 10 party legislators who defected to the Congress has sparked intense backlash from women leaders within the ruling party. They have demanded an immediate apology from Reddy, claiming his comments are disrespectful to women.

Congress leader B Shobha Rani, the Chairperson of the Telangana State Women's Cooperative Development Corporation, fiercely criticized Reddy. During a press conference, Shobha Rani brandished her shoe as a warning to the BRS MLA, condemning his remarks as an insult to women.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Reddy, representing the Huzurabad constituency, stated his intention to send saris and bangles to the defected MLAs. Enraged Congress women leaders retorted that he should first send the items to BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao and Working President K T Rama Rao, who initiated the defections.

Calls have been made for the Telangana State Women's Commission to address Reddy's comments. The defection issue has escalated, with 10 BRS MLAs switching over to the Congress after the 2023 Assembly polls, which ended the BRS's decade-long dominance.

BRS legislators KP Vivekanand and Kaushik Reddy have approached the State Legislative Assembly Secretary to expedite disqualification petitions against three BRS MLAs who joined the ruling Congress, following directives from the Telangana High Court.
