Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh expressed his deep condolences on the passing of CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, describing him as an 'unrepentant Marxist with a pragmatic streak, a pillar of the CPI(M), and a superb Parliamentarian.'
Yechury passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) following a prolonged illness. He was 72 and had been in critical condition, requiring respiratory support in his final days.
Ramesh took to social media platform X to remember Yechury as a multilingual bibliophile, a fine human being with a wonderful wit and sense of humor, and a figure admired across the political spectrum. 'Our association stretched over three decades, and we collaborated closely at different occasions,' Ramesh added, 'You have left us much too early but enriched public life immeasurably and will not be forgotten.'
