Britain's pioneering turbaned Sikh MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi has achieved a historic milestone by being elected as the Chairman of the Defence Committee in the UK's new Parliament.

Dhesi, representing Labour from Slough, won the chairmanship with a decisive 320 votes in a tightly contested ballot against fellow party member Derek Twigg.
