Tension erupted at the residence of BRS legislator P Kaushik Reddy in Hyderabad when turncoat MLA Arekapudi Gandhi arrived with his followers. The confrontation was the latest chapter in a war of words between the legislators, which began with Gandhi’s recent appointment as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the Telangana legislature.
Gandhi’s appointment sparked outrage in the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led BRS, which accused the Congress of violating tradition by not appointing an opposition member to chair the PAC. Reddy had publicly challenged Gandhi to prove his allegiance, claiming Gandhi continued to assert he belonged to the BRS.
When Gandhi reached Reddy’s home, followers from both camps clashed, resulting in the breaking of a windowpane. Police intervened to disperse the crowd. Later, Reddy alleged that Gandhi’s followers had attacked women present at his house, promising a reaction from the BRS the following day.
