Sergei Karaganov, a prominent foreign policy advisor, is urging President Vladimir Putin to adopt a more aggressive nuclear posture towards NATO-supporting countries. In an exclusive interview with Kommersant newspaper, Karaganov stated that Russia could execute a limited nuclear strike on a NATO member without escalating into an all-out nuclear war.
Karaganov asserted that the primary objective of Russia's nuclear doctrine should be to demonstrate readiness to deploy nuclear weapons if necessary. 'It is time to declare that we have the right to respond to any massive strikes on our territory with a nuclear strike,' he said. This declaration comes weeks after Ukraine captured a part of Russia's Kursk region, which Moscow is still trying to reclaim.
According to Karaganov, the United States is misleading its allies by claiming to offer guaranteed nuclear protection. He argues that a more assertive stance by Russia could deter future aggression from NATO forces.
