Members of the Delhi BJP's Sikh cell staged a protest against Rahul Gandhi near his residence at 10, Janpath on Wednesday, demanding an apology from the Congress leader over his remarks concerning the Sikh community in the US.
Protesters, including women, raised slogans and carried placards as they attempted to approach Gandhi's residence from Vigyan Bhawan but were halted by police at a barricade. Tarvinder Marwah, in-charge of Delhi BJP's Sikh cell, stated that Gandhi should learn his family's history and recognize the atrocities inflicted on Sikhs by his grandmother and father.
Marwah warned Gandhi to refrain from such comments, referencing the assassination of Indira Gandhi, Rahul's grandmother, in 1984 following Operation Blue Star. The protesters accused the Congress of historically wronging the Sikh community and demanded Gandhi's apology for his statements in Washington DC, where he questioned religious freedoms for Sikhs in India. BJP spokesperson R P Singh and Sikh cell convenor Charanjeet Singh Lovely echoed these sentiments, asserting that under PM Modi's leadership, Sikhs feel safer and progress is being made.
