On Wednesday, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge unveiled five significant guarantees for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. These include offering a five-lakh interest-free loan for women entrepreneurs and a health insurance cover of Rs 25 lakh per family. The promises come ahead of the upcoming elections, with the Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance vying for power in the Union territory.
During a campaign event in South Kashmir, Kharge said the new government would allocate Rs 3,000 monthly to women heads of families and restore the provision of offering 11 kg of grains per person through the public distribution system.
Kharge further committed to fulfilling the long-standing promise of rehabilitating Kashmir Pandit migrants, ensuring OBCs receive constitutional rights, and filling one lakh job vacancies. Emphasizing education, he promised to reopen the 4,400 government schools shut in recent years and focus on tourism and manufacturing sectors for job creation.
