Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stated on Wednesday that a trade war between the European Union and China is unnecessary, urging both sides to seek a compromise on the planned tariffs. Sanchez was speaking at an event at Mondragon Industrial Park in Kunshan, near Shanghai.

Addressing the European Commission's anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehicles and the potential heavy tariffs by the EU, Sanchez noted that Spain and other member states should reconsider their stances. The EU is expected to vote on the revised tariffs in October, while China has renewed efforts to negotiate and overturn these duties.

During a meeting with local business leaders and government officials, Sanchez emphasized the importance of avoiding a trade war. He expressed Spain's commitment to building bridges and fostering balanced trade relations, particularly focusing on green and innovative industries. Sanchez echoed these sentiments in a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping earlier in the week.
