U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday after experiencing symptoms, according to a statement by Treasury spokesperson Lily Adams.
Yellen continues to fulfill her duties while working from home and will do so until she can return to the Treasury offices, Adams confirmed.
The 78-year-old official had just returned to Washington after a three-day visit to Raleigh, North Carolina, and Austin, Texas, where she promoted Biden administration investments in clean energy and the IRS.
