The Jharkhand government has appealed to the Election Commission (EC) to urge Union Home Minister Amit Shah to instruct BJP leaders Himanta Biswa Sarma and Shivraj Singh Chouhan to refrain from stoking communal tensions for political gains.
The BJP, however, countered that the ruling JMM-led coalition is fearful of its imminent defeat in the approaching assembly elections and questioned the state government's inaction against Sarma and Chouhan.
This development occurs as the 81-member Jharkhand assembly braces for elections due later this year. In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, the state government accused the BJP of trying to scare administrative and police officers to prevent them from taking lawful actions, alleging attempts to incite communal disturbances. The government has demanded the EC ensure impartial investigations before taking action against Jharkhand's officials.
