The Nagaland government has convened a crucial meeting involving ministers, MPs, and other stakeholders to discuss the long-standing Naga political issue, according to an official notification. The meeting is set for Thursday at 10 am at the chief minister's residence.

Present at the meeting will be the chief minister, deputy chief ministers, Assembly Speaker, state MPs, and all legislators. Additionally, representatives from key organizations such as the Central Nagaland Tribes Council, Eastern Nagaland Peoples' Organisation, Tenyimi Union Nagaland, and Naga Students' Federation have been urged to attend.

On August 28, the state's Political Affairs Committee (PAC) discussed the issue and decided to hold consultative meetings with apex tribal bodies and civil society organizations. Headed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, the PAC underscores that resolving the decades-long Naga political issue remains a top state priority, with public consultative meetings planned to chart the way forward.

Since the ceasefire in 1997, the Government of India and Naga political groups have engaged in multiple rounds of talks. This led to the 2015 Framework Agreement with NSCN-IM and the 2017 Agreed Position with the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (WC NNPGs). Although the Naga peace talks were declared concluded in October 2019, the NSCN-IM's demands for a separate flag and constitution remain unaccepted by the Centre.
