EU Commission Job Announcements Delayed by Last-Minute Changes

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen postponed the announcement of roles for each EU country's representative in her team. The decision was affected by Slovenia’s last-minute candidate change. The revised announcement is set for Sept. 17. The delay is also attributed to von der Leyen’s efforts to include more women in the lineup.

In a significant development, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has decided to postpone the announcement of the roles that each EU country's representative will hold in her new team until next week, the European Parliament revealed on Tuesday.

Initially expected to unveil the portfolios on Wednesday, von der Leyen faced a setback following a late change to Slovenia's candidate, which affected the timing. The European Parliament confirmed in a statement that this last-minute adjustment delayed the presentation of the future College's composition to the COP.

The revised announcement is now scheduled for a meeting with top EU lawmakers on Sept. 17. Slovenia recently proposed Marta Kos as its candidate after their first choice, Tomaz Vesel, withdrew. Despite an end-August deadline, several countries made late adjustments, underscoring von der Leyen's push to incorporate more women into the team.
