The BJP has launched a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi following his remarks about the Sikh community made during a US visit. The Congress leader is accused of creating a 'dangerous narrative' by addressing 'sensitive issues' on foreign soil, according to BJP officials.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, speaking at a BJP press conference, described Gandhi's comments as 'sinister.' He alleged that Gandhi is spreading falsehoods among Sikh expatriates who are trying to make a living abroad and have little connection to India.
Puri recalled the 1984 anti-Sikh riots during Congress rule, which resulted in the deaths of around 3,000 people. He claimed that periods when Gandhi's family held power have historically caused anxiety and insecurity among the Sikh community.
