Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has called on the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to hold an emergency summit to discuss the ongoing war in Gaza and Israel's attacks on Jerusalem. Erdogan, a vocal critic of Israel, urged Islamic countries to form an alliance against what he termed Israel's 'expansionism.'
Following a cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdogan claimed Israel was targeting the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem as part of its expansionist agenda. He referred to Jerusalem and the mosque, known to Jews as Temple Mount, as Ankara's 'red line.' The OIC, comprising 57 member states, is urged to act swiftly in defense of Jerusalem.
'It is unthinkable for the OIC to remain indifferent to these attacks,' Erdogan stated, urging a leadership-level meeting. He also mentioned that Turkey would seek justice from the International Court of Justice in response to the killing of a Turkish-American woman, Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, by Israeli forces during a protest in the West Bank.
