West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday alleged a conspiracy by the Centre and some Left parties in the public outcry over the alleged rape and murder of a doctor at a state-run hospital last month.
During an administrative review meeting at the state secretariat Nabanna, Banerjee refuted claims that she had offered money to the deceased doctor's parents, describing the rumors as slander. She encouraged people to return to festivities, with Durga Puja around the corner.
Banerjee expressed confidence in her government's support for the family if they wished to honor their daughter's memory and dismiss the protest as a politically motivated turmoil, influenced by neighboring countries' situations. She stressed the importance of law and order and urged junior doctors to resume their duties. The tragic incident, which happened on August 9 at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has triggered nationwide protests.
