Singapore is committed to enhancing and deepening bilateral ties with China, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan emphasized on Monday during his two-day official visit to Beijing. In a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, Balakrishnan conveyed the message that Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is equally dedicated to this cause.
During their discussions at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, Balakrishnan emphasized that the 2023 upgrading of bilateral ties reflects the unique, longstanding, and close relationship between the two countries. The ties were elevated to an 'all-round, high-quality, future-oriented partnership' following a meeting between then Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Chinese President Xi Jinping in April 2023.
Balakrishnan also highlighted the upcoming 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025. Wang Yi, referring to the volatile international situation, stressed the need for China and Singapore to enhance their strategic coordination and communication. Both nations aim to align their development strategies and solidify their partnership as a stabilizing force in the region.
